Scabies

It is a dermatologic condition caused by a microscopic mite known as sarcoptes scabiei. It is highly contagious and can spread through close contact. It causes intense itching, especially during the night.

What are its symptoms?

  • Severe Itching

  • Tiny blisters or bumps in skin

How to prevent re-infestation?

  • Use hot, soapy water to wash all clothing
  • Place items you cant wash in a sealed bag for a couple weeks. This will kill the mites.

Pediculosis

Infestation of hairy parts of the body with eggs, larva or adults of lice is known as pediculosis. It causes severe itching and is commonly seen in children.

What are the Signs & Symptoms?

  • Severe Itching
  • Lice on Scalp
  • Lice eggs on hair

What are the risk factors?

Head lice are primarily spread through head to head contact. The risk is highest among school going children.

How do lice spread?

Lice can spread from one person to another through:

  • Towels
  • Pillows
  • Hair Accessories
  • Brushes & Combs
  • Hats
  • Scarves

Head lice do not spread from pets.

Insect Bites and Stings

Most insect bites & stings do not cause any serious complications and tend to get better within a few days. However, in certain cases, it can lead to infections, allergic reactions or serious illness.

What are the symptoms?

  • Red, swollen lump
  • Severe pain
  • Itchiness

Sometime, a severe allergic reaction such as swollen face, breathing difficulties or dizziness may occur.

What to do if you’ve been stung or bitten?

  • Remove the sting if its still in the skin
  • Wash with mild soap & water
  • Apply an ice pack
  • Avoid scratching
